It says much about Jodie Schroeder that she lists being a ‘trusted adviser’ among her greatest professional achievements.
Jodie joined the team at Calder Wealth Management in October 2023, bringing with her a wealth of experience across 35 years in the banking and financial planning industries.
Besides completing her studies, it is that trust she values highest.
“Being a trusted adviser to clients who rely on me to assist them in achieving their goals and reaching their dreams in retirement is really special to me,” Jodie said.
“I’ve always had a love of money and a desire to help people manage their money.
“I take reat satisfaction from helping people prepare for retirement, be able to achieve their goals and have a comfortable life in retirement without worrying about money.”
Highly qualified
Jodie Schroeder arrived at CWM with an impressive resume, having spent the last eight years working as a Senior Associate and Financial Planner at the Adelaide office of a global firm.
But it’s just part of her journey to CWM which also includes 16 years with BankSA, working in Customer Service and then as a Senior Financial Planner.
“I started in the banking industry in 1988 when I left school, progressing through the ranks, rising to manager of two branches before an opportunity to enter the world of financial planning arose,” Jodie said.
“I took the opportunity to further my studies, completing my Diploma of Financial Planning and my designation as a Certified Financial Planner at Deakin University.
“In 2022, I completed my Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning at Kaplan University.”
Professional specialties
Working in a team environment is what Jodie said attracted her to Calder Wealth Management.
“The collaborative approach of a team of people all working together to ensure that the clients’ interests are at the forefront of everything we do is really appealing,” she said.
Her skills and depth of knowledge go well beyond retirement planning.
“Assisting clients to navigate Centrelink and accessing their entitlements and benefits is one of my passions,” Jodie said.
“I also love helping people with insurance claims.
“I had a client who was suffering a medical condition and was unsure how he could continue to work.
“He had a mortgage and a family that relied on his income and he was the sole breadwinner.
“I was able to assist him in making a claim on both his Income Protection policy as well as his TPD (Total and Permanent Disability) cover.
“It enabled us to access a lump sum to repay his home and car loans and allow him to put some money in the bank.
“When the income protection ceases, we will establish an account-based pension to replace his lost income.
“This will allow the client to not only pay off both debts but also replace his income and be confident that those funds will last his lifetime.
“It means he can focus on his health without having to worry about money.”
Personal inspiration
Trust is huge for Jodie.
Much of it comes from her grandmother who needed trust and faith in spades as she set out for the promised land more than a century ago.
It’s why Jodie says her ‘Nanna’ is her personal inspiration.
“I often think about my Nanna who back in the early 1920s at age 21 travelled from Scotland to Australia on a boat, leaving her family behind to start a new life in Australia.
“Such a brave and inspiring thing to do at such a young age with so much uncertainty back then.”
Home life
Jodie lives on a 22-acre hobby farm with cows, chicken and sheep while raising two happy and healthy children.
She loves travelling and recently returned from a bucket list trip to the USA and Canada.
But she’s just as happy at home on the farm, spending time with family and friends over a glass of bubbles or white wine.
Fun fact: Jodie was involved in a fishing club as a child with her family and holds many trophies as the leading junior fisher.
