Our insights

At the heart of it, it’s relationships that set wealth managers apart from investment advisers.

When a wealthy person has some capital they want to invest, they can engage an investment adviser to recommend products. This is a perfectly acceptable course of action, but the approach is limiting in a number of ways.

Often individuals who seek out investment advisers have a pre-conceived notion of what they want to invest in, and investment advisers often have a set of pre-conceived notions about the types of products they recommend. The relationship between the wealthy person and the investment adviser is often limited to their engagement around that particular investment or series of investments.

Wealth managers, on the other hand, have long-standing relationships with their clients and intimate knowledge of their goals and financial circumstances. It could be thought of as the difference between engaging a lawyer or accountant to do a specific piece of work for a business, or having an in-house member of the team who knows all the complexities of how the business operates.

Wealth managers work with individuals to manage their wealth over the long term. They know the short, medium and long-term goals of the individual, as well as their tolerance to risk and their family circumstances. This knowledge will inform the products that a wealth manager recommends, with products only recommended if they fit with the overall plan that has been developed with the wealthy person.

Wealth managers often have a broader range of knowledge of different products and services available, and can draw on that knowledge to recommend investments that are the right fit for their clients.

Wealth often means complex financial circumstances which can be difficult to manage efficiently. Wealth managers assist with most areas of an individual’s financial life, including investment, superannuation and estate planning.

At Calder Wealth Management, we put our relationships with our clients first, because we want those relationships to last a lifetime.

Building that relationship helps us drill down to what you want to achieve, and how you want to achieve it.
